Pride: Good or Bad?

This blog is to be completed by Friday, March 4, 2011.

To an extent, we all have pride. Pride can be defined as having a high opinion of one's self or believing that one is superior to others. You often hear someone say, "Take pride in your school," or "Take pride in yourself." What exactly does that mean? And is that really a bad thing?

In Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, the main character, Willy Loman is a very proud man. Identify some of Willy's actions and/or dialogue that prove he is a proud man. Does pride help or hurt Willy?

Like ambition, pride can be viewed as both positive and negative depending on the situation. Discuss situations where pride can be viewed in a positive light; likewise, discuss situations where pride can be viewed in a negative light. Mention personal examples along with consequences dealing with your experiences with pride. If possible, relate your discussion and examples back to Death of a Salesman.
