Why Does Everyone Hate Caesar?

Julius Caesar was arguably the most influential and successful Roman General in history. He was the Robin hood of his era. He conquered unimaginable amounts of land for Rome and sent a fortune back home to the Roman people. He and his legions placed Rome in command of most of Europe.
Despite all of his victories and sacrifices, the senate wanted Caesar stopped. Do you think it was reasonable for the senate and Pompey to try to destroy Caesar and his army? What are the senate's motivations behind their decision to eliminate Caesar? What were Pompey's motivations to amass an army to attempt to defeat Caesar? Did Caesar really go too far during his eight years engaged in battle? Defend your answers with examples from both the text and the film.
