Gang Violence

In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, there is a lot of gang violence between the two huge families, the Montagues and the Capulets. The families have hated each other for so long that nobody even remembers how their disagreement started or what it's even about.

What is the purpose of keeping an argument going for dozens of years?

What advantage is there to hating a group of people just because your family does?

Do you have any experience with long lasting arguments? Explain. (Do not use names)
